Where have you been?
Various old flyers and adverts from my favorite record label Flying Nun*. All courtesy of www.tallyho.co.nz, an amazing site well worth checking out for any fans of the Nun or Kiwi music of a certain vintage. Just a compendium of images that are setting me down a path...
*Ok, there a few non-Nun bands on here. The Enemy never recorded but went on to form Toy Love. Toy Love is mostly pre-Nun, but did get reissued on Flying Nun so that still counts. The Gordons are in the same situation, originally not part of the Flying Nun roster they were eventually reissued on Flying Nun in the late 80's. Techtones were on Propeller, CBS and Ripper Records and none of their work has been reissued as of this date.

If a music video could give an idea of where I'm going, this is oddly it. Rapid fire underground pop culture clips a go-go. Such rapid fire editing in part of it creates a layering effect and ends of abstracting the images...

Time to get back...
To what I'm titling my "commerical suicide" series. Basically any work that is really more wearable art than anything else. I've been doing a lot of abstract work taken from nature references recently and while it was a good palate cleanser it's not really where I want to be in terms of my work. I just feel that it's not really me. Over the summer I'm really looking forward to getting back to making very graphic enamel work utilizing a lot of digital manipulation, layering, found images and collage. I've found some great vintage magazines over the weekend that promise a lot of interesting photos and ads! Once I get them scanned I'll post them here.
SRCC This past weekend...
Got to give two poster presentations this past weekend for the Student Research and Creativity Celebration. One was for my Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, the other was for my small grant on glow powder inclusions in enamel. It was a great time, like a very large science fair. Lots of fun, got to run into an old friend and got to show off what I've learned. Lot's of people really were interested in my work, especially the glowing enamels. Hope I get to do this again for another small grant sometime!
Ton of work, so much to do...
Working on a lot of projects for the end of the semester. Kinda stressed but that's normal. Just gonna keep swimming.
